Child Therapy Session

WHAT to EXPECT during a Child Therapy Session:

  • Each therapy session is 50 minutes long.

  • For the initial session the parent will come to the session by themselves (without the child client present), this gives an opportunity for the presenting concerns to be discussed in detail. If parents prefer to have their child present, they may wish to do so.

  • Consent, privacy, and fee agreement forms will be discussed.

  • A tentative treatment plan will be discussed with parent.

  • At the second session, the child and parent will come to the session together. After 10-15 minutes, parent leaves the session and the child stays in the session.

  • With the last 15 minutes remaining in the session, the parent is invited back into the session. The child client will teach the parents what they have learned and discuss any upcoming therapy homework they might have been given. The child client also has the right to share as much or as little as they would like. Dr. Kim will help facilitate the process.

  • The following sessions follow the same format as the second session.
